Dear Hawks family,

Over the summer, Highland Elementary School received some exciting building improvements funded by the 2018 construction bond. I’m happy to officially announce that construction is now complete!

Thanks to the support from our amazing community that approved the bond in 2018, over $647,000 was invested in improvements at Highland. The improvements we received over the summer increase safety and security in the school and improve the music space.

Front Entry Renovations

Highland received renovations to the front office to increase visibility of the main entry. This is important for the safety of our students because we can now better monitor the front entrance and check visitors in before they have access to the rest of the school.

Site Drainage

Site drainage improvements also took place at the northeast corner of the building, reducing the water that pools along walking paths and in the parking lot.

Additional Improvements

Other improvements include acoustic upgrades in the gym, expanded wireless capacity, intercom system upgrades and badge access system upgrades to increase safety and security in the school. We also replaced the old portable classrooms with newer ones that provide a more comfortable learning environment.

It may seem strange to celebrate building improvements at a time when we can’t welcome students physically back to school. When it’s safe to be together again, these spaces will be ready and waiting for students. Until then, many spaces in our school can be used by teachers as they offer comprehensive distance learning. All of us at Highland are eager for the time when we can return to in-person learning!

Querida familia Hawks:

Durante el verano, en la Escuela Primaria Highland se llevaron a cabo algunas mejoras de construcción emocionantes financiadas por los fondos del bono del 2018. ¡Me complace anunciar oficialmente que la construcción ha finalizado!

Gracias al apoyo de nuestra increíble comunidad que aprobó los fondos del bono en el 2018, se invirtieron más de 647.000 dólares en mejoras para la escuela Highland. Las mejoras que se llevaron a cabo durante el verano aumentan la seguridad y la protección en la escuela y mejoran el espacio de música.

Renovaciones en la entrada principal

En Highland se llevaron a cabo renovaciones en la oficina principal para aumentar la visibilidad de la entrada principal. Esto es importante para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes porque ahora podemos monitorear mejor la entrada principal y registrar a los visitantes antes de que tengan acceso al resto de la escuela.

Sistema de drenaje

También se realizaron mejoras en el sistema de drenaje en la esquina noreste del edificio, lo que redujo el agua que se acumula a lo largo de las vías peatonales y en el estacionamiento.

Mejoras adicionales

Otras mejoras incluyen actualizaciones acústicas en el gimnasio, ampliación de la capacidad inalámbrica, actualización del sistema de intercomunicación y actualización del sistema de acceso con tarjetas electrónicas para aumentar la seguridad y la protección en la escuela. También reemplazamos los antiguos salones de clases portátiles por otros más nuevos que brindan un entorno de aprendizaje más cómodo.

Puede parecer extraño celebrar las mejoras en los edificios en un momento en que no podemos dar la bienvenida a los estudiantes físicamente a la escuela. Cuando sea seguro volver a estar juntos, estos espacios estarán listos y esperando por los estudiantes. Hasta entonces, muchos espacios de nuestra escuela pueden ser utilizados por los profesores, mientras ofrecen un aprendizaje integral a distancia. ¡Todos nosotros en Highland estamos entusiasmados por el momento en que podamos regresar con seguridad al aprendizaje en persona!
